As part of the Durham Book festival, Jupiter Class attended a workshop led by the author David Almond. We are currently reading his latest book, Half a Creature from the Sea, so it was fascinating to hear how he develops his ideas, and what is involved in the writing process.David told us to basically write about what we know. The class were so inspired, we started to plan our own stories as soon as we got back to school.
Beamish has a new special science area, and lots of amazing new science resources. Here are EYFS enjoying the new area by creating a whole lot of bubbles.
All of EYFS had a fantastic week enjoying a range of forest school activities. Everyone was dressed for all weathers, but the sun mostly shone.
Here the children are making their very own magic wands.
This half term our topic work will be centred around Ancient Greece. The children will learn about the development of the Ancient Greek civilisation, and identify ways in which this period in history still influences our modern lives. Art and design will link to this by creating replica pottery and sketching. In science the topic will be ‘animals, including humans’. The children will learn about the human circulatory system and investigate the effect of exercise on the body.
In addition the class will continue conversational French and will think how to develop self-confidence and resilience in PSHE. PE will cover gymnastics and games.
All parents will have the opportunity to have an informal meeting with their child’s class teacher, on Wednesday after school. Once children have been collected in the yard at 3.15pm, parents can come back into school via the front door.
All pupils will return to school on Tuesday 5th September, at 8.45am onwards.
Everyone is invited to our Year 6 leavers assembly. The assembly will start at 9.15am in the school hall.
Year 6 celebrated moving onto their new secondary schools, with a fantastic lunch at San Lorenzo restaurant in Beamish Village. They enjoyed a three course lunch, which even included making their own pizzas. Everyone had a great time and the lovely staff could not have made us more welcome.
