Welcome to our Foundation Stage
Our Nursery and Reception children are taught alongside each other in our Foundation Stage unit by Miss Storey. Our children love to get out and about. Follow the links below to find out what they’ve been up to.
All of EYFS have had a brilliant time working on our topic, ‘What I want to be when I grow up’. We even had a visit from the Fire Brigade.
This half term we are having a forest school week at the beginning of the term. This will involve learning about different types of weather and how weather affects our environment. Leading on from this we will discuss how things grow and learn about life cycles of animals and plants.
Spring 2 2018
This half term we are learning about celebrations and New Life. We will be tasting Chinese food and performing our own Chinese dance to celebrate Chinese new year. Discussing how special our mums are and making them lovely cards and gifts to celebrate mothers day. We will look at new life celebrating animals being born in the spring and discover which animals hatch from an egg.
We will discuss celebrations we enjoy throughout the year such as birthdays, weddings, christenings etc. A visit from Miss Sharpe with baby Jorgie will enable us to carry out our very own christening .
In the last two weeks of term we will carry out some exciting Easter activities and learn about the Easter Story.
Autumn 2 2017
Autumn 1 2017
EYFS have been enjoying their weekly library sessions. After listening to a story they all choose a book to take home.
Reception had a great start to Sports Week. They took part in a judo workshop, and had a fantastic time.
This half term we will be reading a book about ‘Superworm’, we will search for worms and make observational drawing and even measure with worm sweets. As it is international week in this half term we will be learning about Egypt, making the Egyptian flag, designing our own Egyptian collars and making pyramids in our sandpit too. Supertato, Super Daisy and Charlie and his Superhero underpants will also help save the day, teaching us to be healthy and strong. We will also find out about real super heroes such as Policemen and Firefighters, to help us to learn about how to keep safe too. Finally we will have a graduation ceremony to celebrate how we are Superheroes too.
This half term we have been learning about mini beasts and lifecycles. Children have enjoyed looking at photos of chicks hatching, and then having a visit from Mrs Dowding with the chicks at only 3 weeks old. Mr Wressell brought in Queenie the turtle, and we looked at patterns on its shell and discussed food chains, because the turtle had eaten all his frogspawn. The children will be taking home their very own caterpillar to watch them grow over the spring holiday. Once they have gone into a cocoon they will be returned to school and released once they turn into butterflies. Parents will be invited to this special occasion.
This half term we are focussing on celebrations. We will make and taste pancakes with different toppings. We will dress up as a book character for world book day and visit Seven Stories on 9th March to take part in a bear exhibition (linked to our previous topic on bears). This half term we will share our personal experiences of celebrations and read the story of Bears Birthday and King and King, looking at wedding celebrations. We will enjoy developing our growing garden, planting seeds and learning about new life. We will make cards and gifts for Mothers Day and take part in Easter celebrations learning about the Easter Story.
EYFS started off the half term celebrating the marriage of ‘King and King’. Everyone loved the story and had a great time planning the ceremony, then acting it out.
