We visited the Centre for Life to support our science work. We loved the science show and the dinosaur exhibition. There was also time to enjoy the play area.
Our topic this term is castles. We will be designing and building a class castle and also our on sandcastles. We will build our sandcastles during our visit to to South Shields on 14th July. In Science we will be studying materials and their properties and will research the Middle-Eastern country, Yemen as part of International Week.
This half term in Science Neptune Class will be finding out what plants need to grow and also about the different parts of a plant. We will be designing, making and evaluating our own sandwich. I RE we will be finding out about Easter and making Easter cards and crafts. We will also be taking part in an Outdoor Adventure Activities event at the Riverside Centre in Chester-le-street on 5th April.
During the 1st half of the Spring Term we will be finding out about Sir Joseph Swan who invented the light bulb and was born in Sunderland. We will be listening to and appraising a variety of music, clapping along to the pulse and finding out where the come from. On 8th February we will visit Beamish Museum to take part in a ‘Helping to Clean Up’ activity to try to understand how home life has changed within the last 100 years.
This half term Neptune Class will focus on seasonal changes and will compare a cold Non-European climate with that of our country. We will also be preparing for Christmas with crafts and by practising for our Nativity performance which will once again be a joint EYFS and Key Stage 1 production.
Our topic this term is Animals (including humans). We will be investigating our senses, learning about pets and will have a Pet Shop in the role play area of the classroom. In History we will research the life of Beatrix Potter and read some of the stories she wrote. Within PE this half term we will be ‘Making Shapes’ in gymnastics and learning to play new games such as ‘Bean Bag Throw’.
This half term Neptune Class will be studying mini beasts and their habitats. We will be investigating our school environment and looking for mini beasts there. We will also be singing about mini beasts when we learn ‘The Ugly Bug Ball’ song. Our summer trip will be to South Shields where we will look for treasure as part of our Numeracy work using grid references and a Literacy topic of ‘Pirates’.
This half term Neptune Class’ topic is Robots. We will be making robots using a variety of construction materials. We will be using The Iron Man book by Ted Hughes as a basis for our Literacy work and in Geography we will be comparing the landscape, climate and culture of Japan to that of England. We have two visits planned; an afternoon of Outdoor and Adventurous Activities at Park View Academy and a day at Beamish Museum to take part in the Junior Miners’ Gala.
This half term our topic is ‘From Farm to Fork’. We will be finding out where food comes from and how it is produced. We will also be planting seeds and monitoring and recording their growth. In D&T we will be designing and making pizzas and we will also be listening to and appraising music from around the world.
Autumn Term 2
This half term in Science we are learning about different materials; what they are used for and how they feel, look etc. Our History lessons are about our queen, Elizabeth II and her life. We are also using a new app called Purple Mash in computing and are learning a cat dance in PE.
Autumn Term 1
This half term in History we are learning about the first man to walk on the Moon and designing and making aliens in Art. We are learning to play the glockenspiel and we are going to visit the church at West Pelton.
