Reception Welcome

A very warm welcome to Reception

The class teachers are Miss Storey and Mrs Morris and they work closely alongside our teaching assistants Mrs Harrison and Mr Horrigan.

In Reception we have lots of fun while learning through play! We have a stimulating, fun and educational environment where we play, explore and investigate through various forms. Reception have access to open-ended resources both indoors and outdoors. We follow key themes in Reception using different topics as a base to explore children’s interest and curiosity.

The children spend the morning sessions taking part in Literacy activities (including RWI) and Maths activities in the afternoon session, as well as activities of their own choosing throughout the day. Every child reads with an adult each day.

We take part in Dough Disco, which is aimed at strengthening the children’s fingers, supporting them in their ability to hold a pencil and write letters with good control.

Sharing information

Reception Baseline – The reception baseline assessment, or RBA is a short, interactive and practical assessment of your child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills when they begin in school. It will be undertaken with your child’s class teacher and will measure your child’s progress from reception to year 6. The school, the teachers and you, as parents will not be shared and the data will only be accessed by the DFE. The teacher will be able to spend quality 1-1 time with your child, getting to know them and if they need any further support in certain areas. When your child reaches year 6, you will be able to see the progress your child has made throughout their school journey. If you wish to read further on the reception baseline, then you can find a useful parent booklet click here.

Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP)

• In the final term of the Reception year, teachers complete an assessment known as the EYFS Profile for each child.

• The Profile is a quick check of your child’s learning, which will be shared with you.
